Two Years Ago.....
The Orc captain walked through the dead silence of the night, his escort of eight freshly recruited Goblins following behind him. They were beginning to lag behind, so he stopped and turned, his cloak billowing out behind him as he did.
"Hurry up, you maggots!" he shouted at them, the hood of his cloak hiding his purple face.
The Goblins started and scurried over quickly to catch up with the Orc Captain. As they came up to him, the Orc turned again and continued walking, the Goblins walking faster now to keep pace.
They walked on and on through the landscapes that led to Shadow's Peak, where the Great Elementals had fought The Void and imprisoned him long ago.
As they walked, the Orc continuously recited a chant that had been the fruit of 5 years of hard, grueling research, all funded by Orlin's government. They had charged him with finding a way to return The Void to this world so that he may once again lead their nation. They didn't agree with his goal of conquering Malnor(even if they didn't disagree with it, either), but they were willing to make sacrifices in order to return their nation back to the prosperity it had seen in the time The Void had led them 1000 years ago. The Council had given him funds to research a way to break the magical seal that held The Void in the alternate dimension he'd been banished to, and finally, he had found a way to do it.
It was actually quite simple. All that needed doing was a large release of energy to be released to power the spell of the chant he had to recite and the chant's spell would weaken and eventually dissipate the seal holding The Void in his 'limbo' dimension.
Eventually, they reached the foot of Shadow's Peak mountain, and the Orc led them to one specific entrance to the mountain fortress. He used a small flame of magic to light the way until they came to a large cavern that his small flame couldn't illuminate completely. So, turning to the torch on his right, he lit it, and then subsequently lit all the torches in the room with his magical flame. Once all the torches were light, he dissipated the flame on his fingers and said,"you eight, gather around me! Now!"
The Goblins reacted quickly, gathering around the Orc quickly.
"You see that star on the ground over there?" the Orc said, pointing over to a six-point star on the floor of the cavern,"I want one of you to each stand at one point of the star. Now, move!"
With a nod, the goblins moved off to take their positions. The two leftover Goblins that wer en't standing at a point on the star looked over at the Orc.
"Should we go wait outside, sir?" they asked.
The Orc just smiled and shooked his head. He raised his hand, which was glowing with magical power, and sliced the air with it in front of one of the Goblins. As he did so, the goblin practically exploded. The other Goblins watched on in terror and fear as the Orc turned on the other Goblin, doing the same.
"Now, we'll ahve no more problems, I think. We should be ready to begin," the Orc said, wiping his hands off on his cloak. Then, he raised his hands and began to chant. As he went through the chant, the star pattern on the cavern floor began to glow brighter and brighter and brighter, until finally, it was almost blidning.
Then, the Orc quit chanting abrutply and for a few moments, everything was quiet......
until the Orc brought his hands down, the Goblins explodingg into several pieces, their blood and gore spreading all over the place.
As he did this, the Orc smiles, since this was the final step to breaking the seal.
The Orc watched as the star grew brighter. It became so bright, in fact, taht I couldn't even tell what was happening.
Then, a figure began to emmerge from the center of the circle. Clad in a black cloak like himself, the hood work that same way as well. The figure carried a scythe across his back and a flanged mace on his hip.
Finally, the figure, who the Orc now knew for certain to be The Void, touched down on the cavern floor with his feet and looked around. When he spooted the Orc, he smiled and walked over to him.
"My Lord and Sovereign," the Orc said,"I have freed you from your prison. My Lord and Sovereign, our nation needs you to lead her again. She is suffering. We have not had any prosperity at all in that 1000 years you've been gone."
The Void smiled and nodded and said,"Well, my friend, I can understand that. In fact, I believe I'll accept that offer. However...."
In a flash, The Void has his scythe out, holding the end with the pole to his face.
"You're not very fast at all," he said, grinning. Then, a split second later, the Orc's head rolled to the ground and past The Void's feet.
"Now, it's time to continue what I started so many years ago," The Void said, smiling a wicked smile and beginning to walk out of the monastery....
