The father and the mother ran out of the house, followed by the oldest boy. The two young girls, ages 3 and 4, watched from the doorway, cheering their parents and brother on. "Pen, stay at the gate! Martha! Go around to the other side of the cow. Keep it from getting into the woods!" As the family wrestled to get the cow inside, they didn't notice the woman sneaking into their home...

Eavan pulled the dark hood over her face, concealing her so only her eyes were visible. She watched as the family ran after the cow, the two little girls remained at the door. She took a deep breath and pulled herself into the house through the window. Good. They hadn’t poured the drinks yet. Quickly, she pulled the vial from inside her sleeve, pulling the cork loose. The clear liquid was odorless, tasteless, and death would be mercifully quick and painless. He said she had to kill them…not make them suffer. The liquid emptied from the vial into the pitcher and she picked it up, swirling it within her hand to mix it well. One sip. One sweet sip was all it would take. They would be thirsty after chasing the cow. She looked to the two girls standing in the doorway, laughing with faces full of expression and innocence. She closed her eyes and moved back to the window, taking the golden cup from the mantle as she went. She dove head first, hitting the ground without a sound just as the family returned into the house. Eavan waited outside to see the deed complete.

The family sat back down, the father telling the two young girls to settle down while the mother went to the counter to retrieve the pitcher of water. She poured some for every one of them. "It's gone!" The father exclamed suddenly, getitng up to look at the mantle,"Where is it?!" "It's okay, John," the mother said, getting up and putting a hand on his shoulder,"We can look for it after dinner. We don't want to upset the chlidren, do we?" The father looked at his wife for a few moments, and then nodded and kissed her. "All right, kids, dig in!" he said, sitting back down and taking a sip of his drink. About halfway through their meal, the father suddenly stopped, a fork of meat halfway to his mouth. He stared straight ahead for a few moments before falling limply to the floor. "JOHN!!" the mother yelled, getting up quickly and walking over to the man. It was at this time that she froze and then fell over. "Mother! Father!" the boy said, stuck to his chair. He sat there crying for a few moments before he silenced, falling over dead just like his parents. The three year old girl was next. The only one left was the four year old girl, who had'nt taken a drink from her cup. She just sat there, crying for her mother....

Eavan watched the surreal scene from behind a mask of stone. Her mind took in what she saw but would not allow the emotion to surface. She closed her eyes as she saw the family dead where they fell lifeless. A few minutes before there had been so much life and laughter, now only the cries of a small child remained. Eavan opened her eyes and stole back through the window. Darkness was setting in and her darkly veiled figure moved slowly toward the four year old girl. She moved toward her with her hands outstretched. The child screamed louder. Eavan was thankful the house was far in the country.
She stopped, looking at the little girl and raised her hand, pulling the hood from her head. Her long white hair spilled over the dark leather of her clothes in sharp contrast. Eavan sat down in a chair next to the child. Her violet eyes looked down into the tear riddled face of the child with tenderness and compassion. She picked the child up holding her close to her bosom as she rocked her. “Shhhhhhh. There, there now. Don’t cry little one.” Eavan held the child, just rocking her until her tears fell no more. She could feel the little body within her arms shudder as she tried to draw a breath through cried out little lungs. Eavan picked up the cup and raised it to the girl’s lips. “Drink now little one.” She crooned in a soft, comforting tone. The little girl sipped lightly at the cup, swallowing and Eavan sat it back down on the table. The child settled into the comfort of Eavan’s arms as she moved to the rocker in the next room. She rocked the child slowly as the little girl looked up into her eyes. A tear fell slowly down Eavan’s cheek as she felt the last breath and then the child was still.
Eavan drew a deep breath and placed the child into the bed, drawing the covers up snug around her. She bent low, kissing her softly on the forehead. “Forgive me.” She whispered in a hushed voice before turning and leaving the house behind her.
Eavan made the journey back to the castle just before night fell on the third day. She walked slowly to the throne room where she waited to be announced.

"My Lord and Sovereign," a guard announced to The Void,"The assassin woman Eavan has returned. She has your cup for you." "Let her in," The Void said. He sat there as Eavan entered the room holding the cup. "I see you've brought the cup to me. Thank you," he said, grinning maliciously and rising fromhis throne to meet the assassin woman.

Eavan stood before the Void. “My Lord and Sovreign. By your command it has been done.” She bowed holding the cup out to him.

The Void grinned. "Good. Good," he said,"A nice addition to my collection, this cup will be. You have done well, and your efforts will be appreciated. You now have free roam through the tower, except that you cannot leave it's walls without my permission. You are dismissed. Leave my sight."

Eavan bowed her head to the Void. “Yes My Lord and Sovreign. Thank you.” She turned slowly and walked from the throne room. As soon as she neared her room, she ran through the door, locking it behind her. She stripped of the clothes, throwing them into the fire on the hearth and fell to the floor beside the tub. Her body wracked with sobs as her tears fell. Her sorrow and agony spilled from her like water from a broken dam.
Eavan filled the tub and climbed inside, letting her body slide down, sinking far beneath the water’s surface. The distorted sounds and warm embrace of the water did little to comfort her. Her tears continued to fall but mixed in with the contents of the tub, as she rolled over and curled into a ball lying beneath the surface of the water trying to make peace within her own soul. Her elemental ability allowed her to remain as long as she wished, as long as needed to wash the deed from her.

Just a mere two hours later, Thalmor shadow-teleported into Eavan's room and looked around. He saw Eavan in the tub. "Oh, Eavan," he said, walking over to the tub and raising a sleeve, reached in and put a hand on her shoulder,"Eavan, please, talk to me."

Eavan heard Thalmor’s voice carried to her by the water. She felt his touch on her shoulder and after a minute to calm her, rose up to meet him. She looked into his eyes as she stood and stepped from the tub. A faint smile crossed her lips as she struggled to hide her feelings. “Watch this.” She said in a low voice as water began to fall from her skin. It fell from her hair like a soft spring rain and within seconds she was dry. “I don’t need towels anymore.”

Thalmor smiled at Eavan. He could tell that even though she was trying not to show it, she was torn up about what she'd done. "Eavan....I'm so sorry. I didn't know about it until he told you," he said, stepping forward and taking her into a tight embrace,"It's okay...you did what you had to."

Eavan looked deeply into Thalmor’s eyes as he spoke. She buried her face into his chest as he took her into a tight embrace. Her tears began to fall anew as she clung tightly to him. Her body shivered as she bared her soul to him. “I know.” She choked between quiet sobs. “I would do it again if I had to.”
She spoke no more as words could no longer do justice to what she felt. Her arms squeezed him tighter within her embrace, holding him as if her very life depended on it. Her life may not but her soul and her heart now did.

Thalmor held Eavan close as she cried into his chest. He stroked her hair as he held her and she cried. "Ssssssh," said, trying to comfort her with his voice,"Come on.....it'll be all right. Don't worry. I'm here for you." He hated seeing her like this. Her tears marred her beauty. But, He still just held her as she cried, stroking her hair, trying to soothe her with his voice. And he would until she was okay again, Void or no Void.

Eavan took comfort in the sound of his voice and the feel of his hand. His gentle caring quieted her tears as she finally pulled back from him. “I’m sorry,” she said softly as she released her hold on him. She wiped her eyes with her hand, the water gathered like a small pool as she summoned it from her skin. Eavan looked into his eyes. “I will be fine. We will be fine. As long as I have you I will find strength to do what must be done.” She reached up to touch his cheek softly. “I lo…” the words trailed off before finding air to give them sound. She stood before him, unable to move. Her eyes held something deeper than she could convey.

Thalmor smiled at Eavan and reached up and took her hand where it rested on his cheek. He brought her hand up to his lips and kissed it, squeezing it tightly. "I know what you mean," he said to her, smiling and letting go of her hand to stroke her cheek gently with one hand. "I love you too," he said, smiling at her.

Eavan closed her eyes and leaned her face into the stroke of Thalmor’s hand on her face. She opened her eyes to look into his, a genuine smile fell softly across her lips. Her eyes lit at the touch of his words upon her heart as she felt it quicken in its beat.

Thalmor smiled back at Eavan, still stroking her face. Then, he moved closer to her, wrapping his arms around her, and kissed her. As he did so, he felt something that he hadn't felt in over 1000 years. As they broke the kiss, he pulled back just enough to look into her eyes. He saw her love for him reflected in them, shining brighter than the sun.

Eavan’s breath caught with a small gulp as she looked into Thalmor’s eyes. She felt herself becoming lost within his gaze. Her body tensed as her heart began to beat fast. Anticipation and longing began to grip her as she stood before him. His arms wrapped around her made her feel safe and she could feel his love for her. Her mind struggled for a moment as she looked into the face of the man who would kill her in an instant but she knew that it was her beloved holding her now. She pushed all thought of the Void away as she stared at Thalmor with a smile on her lips.

Thalmor felt his heart pounding against his chest as he looked into Eavan's eyes. He saw the same expectation and need he felt mirrored in Eavan's eyes. So, he picked her up in his arms, kissing her as he did, and carried her over to the bed and laid down on it, bringing her over on top of him as he did so, kissing her again.

Eavan drew a deep breath as Thalmor swept her in his arms and carried her to the bed. She looked down from above him, her eyes hungry with growing need as she moved her hands beneath the fabric of his shirt. She smiled at him as she let her desire guide her movements. She rolled with him, her hands pulling at the cloth until it was free from him.
