The Void sat in his throne room in the High Tower of Orlin, where their heads of state had always resided. He looked out from a wide, tall window. The tower gave him a long view of the entire delta on which the city of Orlin sat. The Void turned again, his cloak billowing out behind him, and walked back over to his throne and sat down. It was just another day. There were just more of the same battles going on at the border between Orlin and Dragowyn. And here he was, the Orlin Council insisting on keeping him here. He only did as they said because he needed their assistance in running the country. And so, he had once again become wrapped up in the tangled web of politics. The one thing he hated the most in the world.....

Eavan smiled as she slipped through the castle halls unnoticed. Her guise blended in with that of the serving girls within the castle. She carried the large tray, careful not to meet the gaze of the guards or nobility traversing the halls. To do so would surely give her away. Slaves and servants never made eye contact with those they served. Eavan stood outside the doors to the throne room of the high tower. The guards opened them and allowed her passage. It was time after all for the Void's meal. It had cost her an arm and a leg to get the serving girl to "disappear". After reason and diplomacy failed, a sharp hit to the back of her head did the trick.
Eavan nodded her head slightly as she passed the guards and entered the throne room. She glanced quickly about then moved to the table to set the tray. "Your lunch my lord." She said softly as she lowered herself to the floor before him. She felt the blade on her thigh as it shifted with her movement.

The Void looked over at the servant girl, malice in his eyes. He slowly stood and turned to face her. "Stand," he said, looking down at her. She stood, though she still didn't look at him,"You left something out when you spoke just now. Repeat, word for word, what you just said."

Eavan bit hard on her bottom lip as she took a deep breath. 'Stupid mistake.' she thought as she repeated the words softly. "Your lunch my Lord." She did not look into the Void's eyes as she stood before him. She held her hands at her side, clutching the fabric of her gown tightly.

"Exactly," The Void said, looking down at her still. He raised a hand and slapped her hard across the face so hard it knocked her to the ground, and then kicked her full-on in the stomach several times. Then, he reached down and grabbed her by the hair and pulled her back to her feet,"You need to learn how to address me correctly, wench, or next time, you might not catch me in such a good mood." He threw her back to the ground and waved at her,"Begone! Out of my sight!" The Void turned and sat back down on his throne, reaching over to take a bowl of stew off of the tray....

Eavan winced as the slap knocked her to the ground. She could taste the blood on her lip and prepared herself for what was coming next. Sure enough several vicious kick to her stomach followed. The air left her lungs with the force of each kick as she doubled over. She heard the sharp crack as one of her ribs broke and felt her anger rising. She lay, doubled over on the floor. Her hand came upon the throwing knives and she smiled underneath the cover of her long hair as she felt the reassurance that only cold steel could give her.
As the Void pulled her up by her hair, she got her legs back under her. She wavered slightly from the brutal assault but quickly found her center. “Yes, My Lord and Sovereign.” She said with a sneer as she watched the Void return to the throne. She loosed three of the throwing blades in the blink of an eye and leapt towards him in their wake, dagger in hand…

With the reflexes of a cat, The Void tossed his bowl of stew at the woman, leaping to his feet and picking his battle scythe up, cradling it in his hands, ready to strike with it whenever the opportunity arose. "Well, what have we here? An assassin? You must be a shade, then, since you're an Elf. So interesting. How did you manage to get in here, hm?" The Void said in a taunting voice as the two stood off. The Void's guards began to make a move for his assailant, but he quickly stopped them. He wanted to face this woman alone. He hadn't had a fight in a long time. He was anxious to have another one, just for the sake of spilling blood.

Eavan laughed as she stood before the Void. “Not just an elf my Lord and Sovreign!” She eyed the guards as they rushed into the throne room then turned her full attention back to the Void. “You really should surround yourself with a better class of guards and servants. They seem to be a little on the dim side but then again…look who they serve.” Eavan reached behind her and pulled the short swords from under the blouse. She let the blades cross, the sound of metal on metal rang throughout the throne room as she circled the Void lithely. Eavan’s eyes held him in a hungry, predatory stare as she felt her blood begin to rage within her. The prospect of battle always heightened her desire. “Shall we dance? If you’re a really, really good boy…I may let you lead!” She laughed as she kept her eyes focused on him.

"You've signed your own death warrant," The Void said. He began to back up toward a corner of the room, toward the one wall where there were no windows, not letting the woman out of his sight. He continued backing up until he was fully against the wall, and then an evil grin spread across his face,"Actually, you just wrote it out. I'm the one who's about to sign it." And with that, he reached up and pressed a switch, lowering hidden shutters over the windows and plunging the whoel throne-roome into near pitch-black darkness. "We're in my element now," he said as he became ethereal in the darkness...

Eavan tensed as the room went black. “What’s the matter Void? Can’t face a woman in a fair fight?” She narrowed her eyes as she tried to adjust her sight to the darkness. She knew what was coming and readied herself for whatever he through at her. If she got a chance, she would take him. Eavan moved back until she felt the stone of the wall behind her. She moved slowly toward the direction of his voice as she reached out with her mind trying to hear the smallest sound, to feel the faintest movement on the air around her. “Come on Voidie. Come play with Eavan. It’s been so long since someone has played with Eavan. She does so miss it.”

"As you wish," The Void said from behind the woman, a malicious grin on his face. Without another word, he struck out with his scythe, a blow that would mos definitely slice her in half....

Eavan dropped to the ground and rolled as she felt the shift in the air around her. The Voids voice was not where she had expected him to be and she felt the scythe catch her hair as she dropped. As she came to her feet, she spun striking out blindly with one of the short swords. Her voice rang over the quiet in the throne room as she tilted her head as if to get a better sense around her. "Ahhhh. That's more like it Void although it would be much better with the lights on. It is much more pleasant if you can see. The feel is really quite...remarkable when you can see the face of the one you're dancing with."

The Void grinned at the woman maliciously as one of the shortswords passed through him, dispelling the illusion of himself he'd set there. "Well, then we differ in this matter. I prefer to play with my prey before finishing them off," he said. Then, out of the darkness, 6 of The Void materialized around the woman, all of them with their scythes at the ready. "And I'm going to have a lot of fun playing with you," he said, laughing....

Eavan cursed under her breath as her sword cut a swathe through an illusion. She looked about her as 6 Void materialized around her. A thought crossed her mind as she watched the Void around her. He was master of darkness and she needed light to discern illusion from reality. ‘Within the darkness a small spark of light shall illuminate your path.’ She smiled as she remembered her father’s teachings.
“You hide in shadows Void. How about we throw some light on the subject.” Eavan lowered her swords so the tips drug along the stone floor as she moved in a slow circle. The sparks jumped as the metal scrapped stone. “Did I mention that my mother was a gifted dancer? It’s amazing what they can do with their bodies. I used to practice with her for hours.” Eavan’s circles came faster as her body began to spin, the sparks from the swords flared into a growing cascade of light, increasing as she spun faster and faster with a dancer’s grace. As the light around her increased, the illusions wavered and she saw her target briefly. Her hand moved in a flash as one sword dropped to the ground and she loosed a throwing blade toward the Void. She stopped her spin, dropping to a knee as her hand reached the fallen blade. She held position as she waited for the sound of the blade to report to her ears if her aim had been true.

The Void grinned. This one was clever. He brought the blade of his scythe around skillfully, blocking the throwing knife from its trajectory, and then lowered it back down to his side. "I must admit, that was a good try," he said, laughing,"I think I just might fight you in the light. It could prove challenging." He melted into the darkness, becoming the darkness itself. Then, he rematerialized in front of the switch to raise the shutters, and pulled it. "Much better," he said, grinning maliciously,"Now, where were we?"

Eavan stood as the shutters opened releasing the hold of the darkness as it yielded to the light. She smiled at the man as he stood near the wall. She curtsied to him as she looked playfully holding his dark eyes within hers. “You know, your not bad looking, for an evil, insane, egomaniac.” She tilted her head as she considered him in the light, taking time to truly look at him. She shrugged and began to move slowly toward him. “I think you were leading in a slow dance though I much prefer the closeness and passion of a good Tango.” Her eyes narrowed as she placed another throwing blade between her teeth in semblance of a mock rose. She snapped her head to him as her eyes glistened with her amusement.

The Void laughed and shook his head. "Always with the dancing references. You need to learn that real fighting isn't quite as close to a dance as you might think," he said, reaching around with his left hand to pull out his flanged mace,"Because sometimes, it's more like a boulder barreling it's way through a forest, knocking everything down in its path than a stream flowing around its opponent. "So, my little tree. Ready to get crushed?" he said, slowly walking forward, scythe in one hand and mace in the other..

Eavan looked at him intently as he walked toward her. She dropped the knife from her mouth as she began to speak. “Ummm. Foreplay? I can hardly wait!” She held up a finger as placed the swords into one hand. She reached down and pulled the long skirt from her as she spun, letting it fly toward the Void. She stood before him smiling as the tight black leather gripped her form then removed with blouse with a swift pull. “If we are to dance I think I much prefer this to the peasants garb.” She moved the sword back to her free hand as she blew him a kiss and wrinkled her nose at him. “Ready.” She told him with a hint of amusement.

Squee stumbled into the center of the action, grabbing the discarded dress from Eavan and cloaked himself in it. Bouncing around with his jingly bells he began to chant. "The Dark Lord and Sovereign tangos with the sultry seductress! Will she break his heart or shall he break her in two? If she steps on his toes watch him belows! Whores and Lords who will win? Why Squee the bringer of GLEE!" With that Squee flings his arms wide and the dress falls to the ground, feigning embarrassment Squee hastily grabs the dress and covers himself.

The Void turned as Squee finished his little dance, bringing his flanged mace down on top of his head, turning the goblin into a small, bloody pool of mush. Blood dripped form his weapon as he pulled it back up. "You were so stupid, Squee," The Void said, glaring down at the puddle of mush that was squee,"So much for him."
