The captain did not return to Eavan's cell that day. Everyone left her alone after that first encounter with the orc captain. As The Void lay sleeping in Thalmor Dalk's body, he started to get up. However, this was not The Void doing this. It was Thalmor Dalk himself. He was back in control of his body. However, he had to act quickly before The Void woke up. He closed his eyes and spread his hands against the walls of the tower, feeling the shadows inside. He felt his way to the woman's cell ,and then manipulated the shadows to take his form, as an illusion, so he could speak with her. "Wake up!" he whispered harshly in her ear.

Eavan lay curled in a corner on the cold stone floor. She could smell the dank mustiness of the cell as she fought to remain alert. The smells of those previously inhabiting the cell still lingered within the rock. The darkness closed in around her, the small torch in the corridor was too far away to cast much light within the cell and her weary body finally gave in to the tug of sleep.
Her dreams were fitful as she was revisited by the encounter with the captain in her sleep. She felt herself jerked back into a wakened state as she heard a voice whisper in her ear. Eavan bolted upright to see the form of the Void before her. She backed further into the corner, her body tensing in apprehension. There was something different about him but she couldn’t put a finger on it. He could have attacked her while she slept unaware but he didn’t. Eavan narrowed her eyes, barely able to make him out in the shadows. “What do you want now? Coming to take care of me yourself now?”

"Hey! Quiet down!" Thalmor said to her,"I'm not here to hurt you, okay? I know that must be hard to believe, but you've got to believe me. I'm going to try and get you out of here, okay? I'm sorry about everything The Void's done to you. I'm trying to set it straight." Thalmor held out his hands to Eavan to show that he was unarmed and then reached out to touch her, and his hand passed through her. "Besides, I'm an illusion. I'm not capable of hurting you right now," Thalmor said, smirking at her,"So, are you willing to cooperate or not?"

Eavan flinched as the man reached out to touch her. Her body relaxed as he passed through her without so much as a hint of flesh touching flesh. Instead she felt a brief flutter as if a soft wind had suddenly passed through her. She moved closer to see the illusion better. The eyes. There was something different in the eyes that looked upon her. She didn’t see and feel the steely evil from before. “Thalmor?” she asked in a whisper so quiet it almost wasn’t heard. “How is this possible?” Her mind began to race with possibilities as she kept coming back to one conclusion. "Are you...possessed?"

Thalmor nodded solemnly. "Yes, I am. It happened long before the other Great Elementals, as you call us, learned of 'my betrayal'. Gaia knew the truth, though. That's why he locked me away in an alternate dimension instead of killing me. He knew killing me wouldn't do away with the Morph who possessed me. It would just kill me, and he didn't want to do that. "But that doesn't matter right now. Just do what I say, and you'll be fine, all right? Tomorrow, The Void is going to come to you personally and make you an offer........accept it. You'll still be in this cell, but you'll be given a little more freedom and the beatings will stop. Then, once you gain his trust, he should let you out of the cells. That is when you should make your escape."

Eavan listened intently to Thalmor. Her face drawing at last in understanding. She nodded to him then thought. “I cannot just accept his offer. He would surely know something was wrong if all of a sudden I give in to him.” She frowned for a moment as another thought crossed her mind. “Thalmor. You are an elemental. I came into my power briefly when battling the Void in the throne room. Now I cannot touch the power. I do not understand how it works.” She twisted her hands in her lap, wringing them over and over absently.

Thalmor nodded. "That's because there's no water nearby. You're apparently a Water Elemental. You need water nearby to be able to control it. They won't send you any water for drinking with your meals, either. The Void recognized you for what you are when you used that power in his throne-room. But that's what the offer The Void is going to make you. He's likely going to ask you to be an assassin in his employ. He's already got one Elemental on his side, a Fire elemental, who is out searching for other Elementals. He wants as many of them on his side as possible this time so that he doesn't get a repeat of 1000 years ago."

Eavan nodded her understanding. She breathed a little easier at Thalmor’s words. Eavan felt the realization of what Thalmor was asking of her. “What can I do to help you?” she asked softly. Eavan found herself struggling between wanting nothing more than to kill the figure before her and a need to help Thalmor. She closed her eyes leaning her head back against the wall. “Thalmor are you okay? I mean I know you’re not okay but…”

Thalmor cocked an eyebrow at Eavan. "What do you mean by that? I'm about as okay as I can be, considering the circumstances. Besides, there's nothing you could do to help me anyway. Just take care of yourself. I'll be fine. I'm trying to find a way to get rid of The Void. I'm getting fairly close, as well. So, don't worry about me."

Eavan lowered her head to look at Thalmor. “I didn’t mean…I will do what I can to help.” She frowned a little as she thought. “I will keep your secret while you work toward your goal.” She lifted a hand to his cheek sighing as it passed through the illusion. “I will do what I can to help you when the time comes. For now all I can do is let you know that you’re not alone, little consolation as that may be.”

"What?" Thalmor said, shocked,"But...aren't you going to escape?" Thalmor was surprised. Maybe he was just misreading what she was saying, but.....it seemed like she was going to stay, even when free of her cell, and help him.

Eavan looked at him as she thought. “Eventually I will escape but not until the time it benefits you the most. I can handle whatever the Void throws at me. My training and pig-headedness will shelter me well. It may be more beneficial in the overall struggle to remain close and learn what I can from him.” She breathed deeply feeling the ache slowly leaving her body. “I may be able to offer you assistance. My assignment was to destroy the Void. Mistakenly it would seem by killing him. Perhaps another way will present itself.”

Thalmor grinned at the woman. "Well, then, let's hope all goes well and The Void doesn't discover our little ploy, then. Now, before I go, can I get your name? It will make thins so much easier, you know."

Eavan smiled. She held her hand out palm down above his. A gesture in place of shaking hands. “I am Eavan Alterra. Shade and all-around smart ass where the Void is concerned.” She bowed her head to Thalmor. “And I pledge myself to your service if you will have me.”

Thalmor laughed as Eavan introduced herself, using a made-up gesture in place of a hanshake. "I accept your help, Eavan. It's nice to no longer be alone among enemies, now. Thank you." She could have no idea just how relieved Thalmor was at finally having someone to help him. It was a welcome feeling......one he hadn't felt in about 1000 years.........

Eavan smiled feeling lighter for the moment. She suddenly again felt as if she had a purpose. Something to fight for. She smiled as she let the feeling settle in on her. Eavan smiled at Thalmor. “This is going to get complicated isn’t it?”

Thalmor nodded. "Yes, it is. But, we should be able to pull it off, so long as neither of us gives the other away. So, anyway, like I've already said, the first move shou-" Thalmor cut off his sentence as they heard the sound of a door opening, and keys jangling. Thalmor glanced over at Eavan and then his illusion dissipated into thin air, leaving her alone in the cell once again just as the guard on duty come up, his own torch held high to reveal the cell "Who're you talking to in here?"

Eavan reached out quickly, her hand snapping up a large rat scurrying close near by. She held the struggling vermin up to the guard. “My friend here. Is that a problem?” she asked as she glared at him. She started laughing hysterically and threw the rat at the guard. She moved back against the wall and stared at him as if daring him to come nearer.

The guard glared at her, jumping back as she threw the rat at him. "Just quiet it down in here. I'm trying to get some sleep!" he told her, growling at her and walking off. As he walked off, he muttered to himself. "Can't even get some respect.....mother was right......shouldn't have been a guard......should've been a blacksmith........"

Eavan just stared at the Orc in disbelief. ‘I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t heard it myself. He’s just like a human.’ She shook her head and settled back against the wall closing her eyes. She drifted back to sleep trying to regain her strength for her next encounter with the captain or the Void himself.
